It’s no secret that the annual American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront could not happen without the countless number of volunteers who graciously pitch in to make the three day event a success. Every year, there are a few shining stars that rise to the top that go above and beyond the call of duty. The American Folk Festival Gerry Turner Excellence in Volunteerism Award is given to those that not only go above and beyond, but also serve as role models for other volunteers and have performed exceptional and efficient volunteer service to the festival.
Jim Bird is the recipient of the 2014 Gerry Turner Excellence in Volunteerism – Adult Category (18 and over) Award. Jim has been an integral part of the Festival Operations crew since he started volunteering. He is one of the many volunteers who arrives well before his shift starts and stays later than his shift ends. Jim not only works on the responsibilities that are assigned to him, but takes on many other projects he notices that need to be done. He does not complain no matter the task, instead smiles and says, “That’s done, what’s next?” Jim has a great eye for detail and is able to think quickly on his feet to help solve any problem that may arise. Thank you, Jim for all that you do for the festival each year!
Volunteer awards are selected from the following categories:
- Festival volunteer, adult (18 and over)
