Color Bangor 2015 a community driven success

Sunday morning dawned cloudy and slightly cool for May.  Throngs of volunteers were getting organized to dole out mass quantities of colored cornstarch at the color stations set up in a five kilometer area around downtown. As runners started lining up for the second annual Color Bangor, we knew we had a successful event on our hands. People were excited, dressed in white with colored accessories to enhance their experience. The presenting sponsor, Changing Seasons Federal Credit Union helped welcome participants and posed for this picture below with Dr. Seuss themed runners! color bangor 2015 changing seasons Children were itching to get messy at the Children’s Color Zone, sponsored by Playland Adventures.  They certainly fulfilled that dream.  Between the Color toss, Tire Run and Color Crawl, kids and kids at heart were covered before the run began. color bangor 2015 childrenA span of ages gathered at the Waterfront to warm up with Zumba with Sunshine before the run officially was underway.  Once the starting gun was fired, color was everywhere.  Participants walked, jogged, sprinted and rolled through a five kilometer course with color stations set up in various locations to liven up the gray morning.  Back at the starting and finish lines, celebrations were being had. Group photos by Kevin Bennett Photography, candids from Whittling Fog Photography, Digital Cobwebs Photography and Bill Knight, the Children’s Color Zone, and the Celebrity Color Pelt continued the party as participants crossed the finish line. Speaking of the Celebrity Color Pelt, Bangor Police Department, City Councilors Gibran Graham and Ben Sprague, personalities from all three Bangor TV news departments (including our wonderful emcees for the day, Brian Sullivan and Kristin Hosfelt from ABC7/FOX22), Cindy Campbell from Q106.5, and Ric Tyler from The George Hale/Ric Tyler Show were pummeled with pounds of color. We are lucky to have such good sports in Bangor, and Bangor PD is lucky that cornstarch washes off easily. color bangor 2015 bangor pdColor Bangor began as a fun way to raise funds to support the American Folk Festival and bring together the community and surrounding area with the same energy as the August festival. A family friendly event where everyone has even more fun and gets messier than last year was the goal, and that is exactly what happened on the waterfront this past Sunday. Thanks to all of the volunteers, sponsors, runners, walkers, on-lookers, and color-pelt participants. A special thank you to the City of Bangor and Bangor Police and Fire Departments for once again getting in on the fun and making this community an absolutely amazing community to be a part of. Preparations for the 2015 American Folk Festival are well underway, and preparations for the Third Annual Color Bangor are already in the works. We’ll see you on the waterfront! color-bangor-splotches 2015
